History of MotorSports in Nigeria
Motorsports in other words called car race competitions is a game that has been in existence for decades of years but recently kicked off in Nigeria through Eleko Motors car racing competition, The Drift League, Sagamu Rally and the Superbike races.
It became a trending sport and an amazing development which the country had waited for so long. The International Federation of Automobiles has also shown much interest to broaden the administration of the sport and also foster promotion that will raise motorsport to a standard level in Nigeria.
The plans about the improvement of motorsport in Nigeria became obvious at a 2-days FIA Sports African Regional Congress held in Abuja at Transcorp Hilton Hotel FCT, Abuja Nigeria on the 26th and 27th of August 2017 which features representatives from different countries.
The event was specifically focused on how to widen the growth of Automotive Sport in Africa basically in Nigeria. In May 2009, a club was known as Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN) was founded to encourage automobile sports, mobility, tourism and the general public on environmental issues.
The group works to create consciousness for road safety within the country by organizing several automobile sports events such as the popular Eleko Motor Race held at Eleko Beach, Lagos, Nigeria in 2004.
